Casing Shoe Bit
The inside diameter of the casing shoe bit is not set with diamonds
sometimes(surface set Type) and flush with the inside diameter of
the casing. Basically,the corresponding size of Drill Bits and Core
Barrels have to get through the inner diameter of the casing shoe
bits freely.
Casing Bit
The inside diameter of the Casing Bits are set with diamonds and is
smaller than the Casing Shoe Bits. It will not permit the passage
of the core barrel.
Casing shoes and rod shoes are designed to drill in casings or rods in difficult over burden
material to position the rods or casing in the drilling hole.
The interior is smooth and sufficiently large enough to allow free
passage of coring equipment such as bits, reaming shells, core
barrels and drill rods.
They are manufactured to withstand difficult drilling conditions:
for example, unconsolidated overburdened or broken abrasive
materials.
Whatever form of casing is, casing shoe must be fitted on top of
casing when put into drill hole. The edges of casing shoe exposed
to rocks are very few. Casing shoes are connected with casing by
means of thread.
Outer diameter of casing shoe is same as bit’s,with its inner
diameter equal to or slightly less than casing’s. Such design make
it is possible for core tube, drill rod and core barrel to pass
through in order to extend geological exploration
Main functions of casing shoe:
1): protect casing ends from distortion.
2): help casing pass through stratum to bed rock.
3): carry mud to earth surface.
4): help down-pass of casing when drill rod is in hole
